Lee Gates, le populaire animateur d'une émission sur la finance, est un jour pris en otage par un inconnu en direct à la télévision. L'étranger armé le force à enfiler une ceinture explosive et le menace de tout faire sauter s'il n'exécute pas chacune de ses demandes. Le jeune homme révèle alors qu'il a perdu 60 000 $ en suivant les conseils boursiers de Gates et qu'il le tient responsable de sa faillite. L'animateur sympathise peu à peu avec le terroriste et en vient à l'aider à élucider le mystère de derrière l'évanouissement de ses économies en bourse.

TORONTO, Ont. (August 8, 2016) – Academy Award® winners George Clooney (Best Supporting Actor, Syriana,2005) and Julia Roberts (Best Actress, Erin Brockovich, 2000) reteam for MONEY MONSTER, the intense and exciting conspiracy thriller set against a ticking clock. Clooney plays a financial TV host put into an extreme situation when he and his producer (Roberts) are taken hostage by an irate investor. Also starring are Jack O’Connell (Unbroken), Dominic West (“The Wire”), Caitriona Balfe (“Outlander”) and Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”). Directed by two-time Best Actress Oscar® winner Jodie Foster (The Accused, 1988; The Silence of the Lambs, 1991), MONEY MONSTER debuts on digital August 16th and Blu-ray® and DVD September 6th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Canada.

Synopsis:
In the real-time, high-stakes thriller, George Clooney and Julia Roberts star as financial TV host Lee Gates and his producer, Patty, who are put in an extreme situation when an irate investor who has lost everything (Jack O’Connell) forcefully takes over their studio. During a tense standoff broadcast to millions on live TV, Lee and Patty must work furiously against the clock to unravel the mystery behind a conspiracy at the heart of today’s fast-paced, high-tech global markets.
