Paramount annonce pour le 25 juillet 2017, le film Ghost in the Shell en édition DVD, Blu-ray et 4K Ultra HD, réalisé par Rupert Sanders et mettant en vedette Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbæk, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, Michael Pitt et Chin Han.

Le cerveau de Mira a été retiré de son enveloppe charnelle pour être placé dans un corps robotisé. Maintenant appelée Major, la cyborg, considérée comme une arme par l'entreprise Hanka Robotics, lutte contre le cyberterrorisme avec une équipe d'élite de la Section 9. Un jour, elle doit affronter un pirate informatique qui menace d'éliminer tous les hauts dirigeants d'Hanka. Au fil de ses recherches, Major découvrira que le criminel veut se venger des mauvais traitements que lui a jadis fait subir l'entreprise. Celui-ci prétend même que Major ignore beaucoup de choses sur son passé, des choses qui pourraient mettre en doute sa foi en l'entreprise qu'elle défend corps et âme.
