Les gardiens de la galaxie parcourent le cosmos afin d'aider les habitants des différentes planètes à vaincre leurs ennemis. Quand ils se retrouvent prisonniers après une embuscade, un étranger vient à leur secours in extremis. Celui-ci se présente alors à eux comme était Ego, le père biologique de Peter Quill. Désirant connaître ses origines et les détails de son bagage génétique, Peter accepte d'accompagner son père sur sa planète.
