Présentée sous la forme d'un documentaire intitulé "My Roanoke Nightmare", l'histoire suit un couple, Shelby et Matt Miller, vivant à Los Angeles. Après l'agression de Matt ayant failli causer sa mort et l'annonce de la fausse couche de Shelby, le couple décide de déménager pour la Caroline du Nord, la région natale de Matt. Ils y achètent une ancienne ferme construite en 1790, sans savoir que des événements bien plus sombres les y attendent.
