L'hiver est enfin arrivé sur le continent de Westeros.
Dans le Nord, les Stark se sont réunis à Winterfell. Jon, désormais roi, tente tant bien que mal d'unifier toutes les maisons du Nord et les Sauvageons afin de contrer l'immense armée de Marcheurs blancs qui s'approche inexorablement du Mur.
Daenerys Targaryen, secondée par sa gigantesque armée constituée de Dothrakis, de Puînés et d'Immaculés ainsi que de la flotte Fer-nés des Greyjoy, a enfin accosté à Westeros et s'installe dans la cité de Peyredragon. Sous les conseils avisés de Tyrion, elle est à la recherche d'alliés dans sa quête du Trône de fer et envisage une alliance avec le Nord.
À Port-Réal, Les Lannister, plus que jamais esseulés et sans aucun allié, doivent s'efforcer de conserver le pouvoir contre les maisons Tyrell, Martell et Greyjoy qui se sont rebellées contre le Trône de fer à la suite de l'attentat du grand septuaire de Baelor. Cersei, désormais reine des Sept Couronnes, est désespérément à la recherche d'alliés pour contrer l'alliance des maisons Stark et Targaryen au Nord.
