Spider-Canada

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse features over 280 variations of Spider-people in the expansive Multiverse yet only one wields a hockey stick, and her name is Spider-Canada.

Spider-Canada is an original character created for the film, having never appeared in the previous films, and pops up in several scenes. According to an ESPN interview, the character was born out of the filmmakers own love of sports, sneaking in sports nods and mentions wherever they can. Canadian Production Designer Patrick O’Keefe remained the team’s lone hockey admirer (a long time Toronto Maple Leafs fan) and Spider-Canada was his way of paying homage to his country, the sport, and the legions of Canadian animators that worked on the film. Sony Pictures Imageworks is based in Vancouver with a growing presence in Montreal.
