Sony Pictures annonce pour le 5 janvier 2016, le film The End of the tour en édition DVD et Blu-ray de James Ponsoldt avec Jesse Eisenberg, Jason Segel, Anna Chlumsky, Mamie Gummer, Joan Cusack et Ron Livingston.

Le magazine Rolling Stone n'a pratiquement jamais rien publié sur les romanciers. Le journaliste David Lipsky compte créer un précédent en convainquant son patron de le laisser écrire un article sur le célèbre David Foster Wallace qu'il adore. Le reporter quitte New York pour une ville perdue de l'Illinois afin de rencontrer l'écrivain qui se montre distant et légèrement mésadapté socialement. En habitant chez cet homme, en le suivant dans ses déplacements pendant ses séances d'enseignement et lors de sa tournée promotionnelle pour son nouveau livre, Lipsky tente de mieux le connaître. Une amitié commence à naître entre eux même si Wallace semble cacher quelque chose.
